Barbaro & Bertalmio Law, LLC is a family-run law firm founded by Richard Bertalmio and Deanna Barbaro, two cousins who share a passion for providing exceptional legal services. With years of experience working together at Barbaro Law Group, PC, our team brings a collaborative approach and a deep understanding of the law to every case. 

Following the retirement of Barbaro Law Group PC’s founding partner, Joseph Barbaro, in late 2024, Richard and Deanna co-founded Barbaro & Bertalmio Law, LLC.

Who We Are

Richard Bertalmio

Richard Bertalmio is a founding partner. He is a graduate of The John Marshall Law School, and predominantly focuses on the areas of personal injury, criminal litigation, Secretary of State hearings, probate, and real estate transactions. Richard is an experienced trial attorney, who has litigated hundreds of bench and jury trials, and numerous legal motions. Prior to joining the Barbaro Law Group in 2014, Bertalmio worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Richard is committed to compassionately explaining complex legal issues to his clients and advocating for their rights in court.

Richard resides in the western suburbs with his wife, Laura, and his daughter.

Deanna Barbaro

Deanna Barbaro is a founding partner of Barbaro & Bertalmio Law, LLC and the daughter of Barbaro Law Group’s founding partner, Joe Barbaro. Following in her father’s footsteps, Deanna started her law career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in DuPage County. She has litigated hundreds of jury and bench trials in traffic, misdemeanor, and felony courtrooms.  Deanna has resolved numerous traffic, criminal, probate, and personal injury cases in courtrooms across Chicagoland. Outside of the courtroom, Deanna handles real estate, estate planning, and business formations. She also serves as an administrative hearing officer in multiple surrounding municipalities. Deanna graduated magna cum laude from Bradley University and cum laude from Valparaiso University School of Law. 

Deanna is the President of the Southwest Bar Association and previously served as the treasurer of the organization from 2024-2025. Deanna and her husband live in the southwest suburbs.

Of Counsel

Joseph R. Barbaro

Joseph Barbaro has been practicing law for more than 35 years. He is a graduate of DePaul University and John Marshall Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate. Joe served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County and a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Maui County, Hawaii. During this time he was assigned to multiple high profile units including the Homicide Sex Crimes Division and Gang Prosecutions Unit where he successfully prosecuted more than 65 felony jury trials. In addition to prosecuting several high profile cases in Hawaii, Joe served as Supervisor of the Circuit Court Division. Since leaving the prosecutor’s office, Joe  used his experience as a prosecutor to successfully defend criminal clients. He concentrated his practice in the areas of criminal defense, traffic, DUI, real estate transactions, personal injury law, wills, trusts, and probate until retirement in 2024.

Now, Joe is busy enjoying his retirement. He spends his days fishing off the coast of the Florida keys, traveling with his wife and kids, and spending time with his family.  He remains a trusted consultant and is dedicated to helping the practice even during retirement.
